JSID
Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology
The Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology (JSID) was established in July 1981, the impetus being a dermatological research club that had been founded mainly by Professor Kihei Tanioku of Okayama University in 1976 with the aim of advancing dermatological research. The JSID has become one of the most important scientific societies of dermatological research in Japan. We have been promoting academic scientific research on skin and associated organs, including research involving biology, physiology, pathology, epidemiology and therapy. The JSID consists not only of dermatologists but also of scientists who specialize in basic research in those fields.
The JSID strives to promote excellent research in the field of dermatological science.
The society has many key aims which include the presentation of research findings and improving the quality of dermatology and bioscience. Two prevailing goals were introduced after the success of International Investigative Dermatology 2008 to further improve the international status and research level of the society, and to develop young researchers. Following the official language change into English at Annual Meeting in 2009, the “Young Academician-Fostering Seminar (Kisaragi-juku)” was launched to train promising young doctors in 2010.
These aims are also in turn met through the publication of its mouthpiece journal the Journal of Dermatological Science (12 times annually) with contributions from renowned academics from across the globe (including Japan, USA, Europe and Asia), through its association with fellow prominent dermatological societies the Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID) and the European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR), and through the organisation of its Annual Meeting which celebrated its 35th year in 2010. At the 35th meeting, the participants numbered 672 from 19 countries and regions.
Together with the ESDR & SID, the JSID exchanges academic research findings worldwide through International Investigative Dermatology (IID).
